Due to an increase in opportunities our client is looking for a Commercial Manager/Quantity Surveyor. Ideally the candidate will have a Mechanical installation background.They are open to either contract or permanent requirements.

The role will predominantly be based at the client’s site in North East Lincolnshire with the initial project based in Hull. The
successful candidate will have experience of carrying out the role
previously within the Engineering Consultancy, Building Services or
Power Generation industries.

/Quantity Surveyor to their team. You will be responsible for Subordinates.


  • You
    will be developing cost estimates and proposals for on-site/off site
    projects. Coordinating resources to manage the effective delivery of
    projects safely, on time, within cost to acceptable technical standards
  • This
    is a leadership role requiring high levels of motivation, confidence,
    technical and commercial capability and an outgoing personality
  • Minimise the costs of a project and enhance value for money, while still achieving the required standards and quality
  • Meeting specified statutory regulations and adhering to these
  • You will keep track of any variations to the contract that may affect costs and create reports to show profitability
  • Responsibilities vary depending on the nature and stage of the project being worked on
  • Preparing tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities with the architect and/or the client
  • Undertaking cost analysis for repair and maintenance project work
  • Assisting in establishing a client’s requirements and undertaking feasibility studies
  • Performing risk, value management and cost control
  • Advising on procurement strategy
  • Identifying, analysing and developing responses to commercial risks
  • Preparing and analysing costings for tenders
  • Allocating work to subcontractors
  • Providing advice on contractual claims
  • Analysing outcomes and writing detailed progress reports
  • Valuing completed work and arranging payments
  • Maintaining awareness of the different building contracts in current use
  • Understanding the implications of health and safety regulations
  • To take commercial responsibility for contract performance across the business to maximise both turnover and profitability
  • Provide detailed costing estimates and costing analysis
  • Purchasing of all materials for the entire company and it’s related projects
  • Commence
    all relevant work in relation to receipt of a New Project such as
    analysing the project, breaking out subcontractor and supplier
    enquiries, selecting suitable subcontractors and suppliers
  • Preparation of pricing documents and the formatting of these documents into the standard layout
  • Cost planning at pre-contract and post-contract stages
  • Ensuring projects are run in a coordinated manner and in accordance with plans by assisting the contracts team
  • Fair and reasonable assessment of sub contract valuations and final account agreement in a timely manner
  • Applying strong presentation and communication skills when liaising with Clients and Suppliers
  • Using
    strong selling, negotiation and influencing skills when dealing with
    Clients and Suppliers to foster long lasting relationships
  • Developing and maintaining strong network and account management relationships
  • Continually seeking opportunities to enhance relationships and service provision to clients, both internal and external

Key Skills & Qualification required:

  • Knowledge of engineering, building services or power generation industries
  • Excellent communication skills and an ability to network and interact with potential clients
  • Extensive experience in construction/M&E
  • Strong work ethic focused on outputs, performance and success
  • Familiar and experienced with current Health and Safety Legislation
  • Strong experience as Commercial Manager
  • Quantity Surveyor background
  • Excellent communication skills with commercial awareness and ability to survey, estimate and tender projects
  • Experienced and capable of authoring internal specifications, policies, procedures and presentations
  • RICS or Equivalent (desirable)
  • Working knowledge of plant, equipment and materials and schedule of rates
  • The ideal candidate must have experience working as a Quantity Surveyor, degree qualified would be preferred.
